Title: The Chapter Books vs. the Episodes
Post by: Crossover Dreamer on November 10, 2012, 07:00:50 pm
Has anybody ever read the Arthur Chapter Books? I've read a few: The ones based on "Arthur Accused!", "Buster's Dino Dilemma," and "The Big Blow-Up." Do you think any of the chapter books are better than the episodes they were based on? I know that I liked the episodes "Buster's Dino Dilemma" and the "Big Blow-Up" more than the chapter books. As for "Arthur Accused!", I'm not sure.

I've read Arthur's Birthday. As for whether the books are better then the episodes is up for a huge debate. In some episodes though they reference things from the books. An example is in the episode Sue Ellen's Lost Diary where she admits that she said nice things about Arthur. This referenced the fact Arthur had a crush on Sue Ellen in the books.

Thank you for your input, but I was specifically referring to the chapter books, and Arthur's Birthday is not a chapter book but a picture book. I think that the picture books are called "Arthur Adventure Books." All Arthur Chapter Books are based on an Arthur episode with the exception of the Arthur Good Sports Chapter Books. And they did make an Arthur Chapter Book based on "Sue Ellen's Lost Diary."

There hasn't been any new Arthur chapter books since 2005.

I remember checking those out from my library. But I don't remember much about the books themselves, other than that many of them were actually renamed from the episodes (at least, I think the episodes came first, didn't they?). For example, "Misfortune Teller" became Arthur and the Cootie Catcher, and "The Boy Who Cried Comet" was Arthur and the Comet Crisis.

Some of the books weren't even episodes...like Arthur and the Goalie Ghost, which, strangely, incorporated a lot of seemingly randomly placed French phrases and someone named Jacques Nettoyer.

Is Arthur and the Goalie Ghost one of the Arthur Good Sports Chapter Books? I'm guessing they changed the titles and the stories so that Arthur has a bigger role in the stories.

How many chapter books have they published?
