Characters / Character Nicknames...
« on: November 26, 2013, 10:00:00 am »
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's come up with affectionate nicknames for some of my favorite cast members.  Anyone else?

Buster - Drugs Bunny
Molly - Mean Bunny / Bluster Bunny
Ladonna and Bud - The Beverly Hillbunnies
D.W. - Diminutive Weirdo
Francine - Short-Haired Jewmonkey*
Maria - Little Miss Soggy Socks
Jenna - Miss Peebody

*This is an actual breed of monkey, believe it or not.

Characters / Favorite Arthur Character
« on: October 18, 2013, 05:37:44 am »
Out of the main group of Arthur characters, who is your favorite?
Supporting characters (mostly) not included...although a poll for favorite supporting character or least favorite character wouldn't be a bad idea.

My money's on D.W.  No matter what she says or does, hilarity ensues.
Fern's a close runner-up.  Not because she's amusing, but because she's interesting, creative and sympathetic.
Buster isn't far off, either.  He usually wins "favorite character" polls by a long shot.

Characters / Future Careers of the Arthur Gang...

Ever wonder what Arthur, Buster and friends will ultimately wind up doing with their lives?  Here's my take:

Buster - Bionic Bunny!  In his mind, at least.  He'll live at home on Bitzi's couch forever after flunking out of third grade.
Francine - Lawyer, Doctor or A-List Hollywood Actress.  She's Jewish, so really, she doesn't have many other options in life...
Muffy - Inmate #312346 at Elwood City Prison, serving 10-20 years for tax evasion, embezzlement, corporate securities fraud, and deceptive trade practices.
George - Serial Killer.  Seriously, he fits the profile perfectly.  Quiet, socially awkward, full of pent-up rage, bullied and taken advantage of as a child, preoccupied with strange fantasies, and has a serious control complex evidenced by his obsession with puppets...
Binky - Hairstylist.
Ladonna - Senator, U.S. Representative, or President of the United States.  Her knack for being completely full of sh#@ honest and truthful will take her far in the political arena.
Molly - Drill Sergeant.
Brain - Homeless.  Jobless.  His multiple Ph.D's will render him completely overqualified for every job known to man.
Fern - Junkie.  Her addiction to those amphetamine-laced candy bars was just all too painfully convincing.  Plus she's a depressive poet, so it's pretty much inevitable.
Sue Ellen - Diverse experience with other cultures + Karate = CIA Assassin.
D.W. - Internet Troll / Spam Queen.  Bus Driver and Dairy Farmer also come to mind... ::)

Characters / Molly MacDonald - Dog or Rabbit?
« on: October 13, 2013, 04:53:42 am »
I've always been a little confused about Molly and whether she's a rabbit or a Marina-type of dog.  The Arthur Wiki lists her as a rabbit, but if you look at her character design, her nose and ears are identical to Marina's.  This leads me to conclude that she's really a dog.  James, by contrast, has the more common rabbit nose design that we see in Buster, Ladonna, etc.

We know that her mother is a dog, and her father is a rabbit.  This leads to the conclusion that:

1.  Molly is a dog, and is her mother's biological daughter.  James is a rabbit, and is his father's biological son.  Their parents got married after they were born from previous marriages/partners of the same animal race.  OR
2.  In the Arthur universe, it's possible for animals of different species to interbreed.  In this case, Molly and James are really dog/rabbit hybrids.  This could explain why Molly's snout is much shorter than her mother's, and James's ears are more similar to Marina's than Buster/Ladonna's (assuming this isn't just due to him being a young child).

General Discussion / Greetings...

Greetings fellow Arthur fans!

Just thought I'd finally register and introduce myself.  I'm a big fan of the series, and recently went so far as to re-watch the entire series over the course of a few weeks.  I've always really appreciated how much depth, character and quirk the show's managed to give its cast.  I'm particularly impressed by its occasional paralleling of more "adult" literature --  "Never, Never, Never" being a thinly-veiled presentation of Shakespeare's King Lear, for instance...

Anyway, glad to be on board.   :D
