I originally gave up on Arthur just before PFB premiered. I don't recall much from PFB, though the concept sounds fairly interesting - not sure about the live-action bits though. It's more like live action with some animated bits. It's really a good show, but just be aware that it's almost completely live action.
they need to take a leaf out of cinar(cookie jar's? whatever. the name of the first company that produced arthur)'s book...At first it was Cinar, but they were involved in a tax scandal and they had to become Cookie Jar.
Cerebus Syndrome.I remember this happening with 21 Jump Street (the TV show, obviously), the first season was a cool show about undercover cops busting kids with drugs in schools. The second season literally had almost every episode have a moral of some kind. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the morals, but sometimes I just didn't want them handed to me when I just wanted to see some people get the law handed to them.
It happens quite often to long running series that are usually humorous; M*A*S*H had the same problem, it started out as a sitcom, then is slowly, but progressively became a comedy with dramatic undertones, before becoming a full-blown preach fest with little-to-no comedy whatsoever.
In the earlier seasons, D.W was also kind of insulting. I rewatched "Arthur's Treasure Hunt" one of my favorite episodes, and I was practically crying with laughter on the bit where Arthur dug up the Roman city. Another bit that I laughed at was when D.W asked Arthur if he was burying his report card. Then, I watched "Buster Baxter and the Letter From the Sea" and it was so boring and blatant. There was practically no humour, D.W was the most boring part of the episode, and the part where Buster cleaned up the beach seemed very goody-goody. A lot of episodes from season 14 are like that for some reason.Totally agree, D.W.'s early personality was amazing. The constant rivalry between her and Arthur was also a favorite of mine.
Why did the writers change D.W from the source of humour in an episode to the worst part of it? After the Time Trouble episode, she was basically a different person, until Baby Steps in Season 16, when she again insulted Arthur.
Instead of your assumed intentions to abolish a decidedly-annoying character*, it would turn into another "Very Special" episode revolving around the hospital system.
* I always thought she was funny, albeit ungrateful every now and again - oh well.
What if Prunella Deegan got ran over by a car? There would be yet another episode about a character being affected by some sort of ailment.
This is the big chance to be in the audience and ask about any deep dark secrets about the making of the series. You will have the one time only chance to get all these that people that never hang out together in one venue and in the spotlight. There should be some fireworks. I will be there and hope to see some well posed questions in the Q&A section.I keep telling myself that I don't want to go... but it sounds like it would be so interesting to hear.
