Episodes / Re: Desk Wars
« on: October 30, 2012, 08:57:34 pm »
"Desk Wars" is one of my favorite season 8 episodes. What I like about it is that it had a "stupid Brain" moment that I thought was more believable than most others: him not knowing what feng shui is.

George is right. They do tend to make a big deal out of everything.

How did the writer(s) think up the chain reaction?

Episodes / Re: Sue Ellen Chickens Out

"Sue Ellen Chickens Out" is one of my favorite episodes of season 8.

Yes, Chicken Lickin is a parody of KFC, and Beauregard Poulet is like Colonel Sanders. I've also seen parodies of Colonel Sanders on classic sitcoms Get Smart and The Beverly Hillbillies.

During the part where Sue Ellen tells the kids that the Sugar Bowl would become a Chicken Lickin and they're commenting on their favorite Chicken Lickin meals, have you noticed that after Brain said what he liked, Arthur didn't say what he liked, but what D.W. liked. Fascinating.

I just thought of "Belladonna."

I do believe that dream sequences can be useful in a storyline sometimes, but I just think that Arthur uses them way too often. I've counted at least a hundred.

Cast and Crew / Re: Julie Lemieux (Voice of Bud Compson)

Julie Lemieux did the voice of Rupert Bear on Rupert. I've been watching Rupert on Qubo/ION. I can tell they're the same person.

Cast and Crew / Re: Joe Fallon

I miss Joe Fallon! He was one of my favorite writers. Did you know that he was also a writer for Doug? So were Ken Scarborough, Matt Steinglass, and Dietrich Smith. I also like Kathy Waugh, who wrote a lot of D.W. and Francine stories.

I don't like very many of the episodes Peter K. Hirsch has written.

Series Discussion / Re: A Change of Seasons
« on: October 29, 2012, 09:39:13 pm »
A major problem with incorporating different seasons on Arthur is continuity. For example, like Ladonna, Sue Ellen moved to Elwood City during the winter when Arthur was in the 3rd grade. But then we see Sue Ellen in episodes that take place prior to that winter ("Arthur's Eyes" is the most obvious).

When it comes to continuity, the summer episodes are the most troublesome. According to "Arthur's Faraway Friend," Buster was supposed to return in August. But most of the episodes where Buster was traveling with his dad, the kids were in school! Oh, yeah, and then there's D.W.'s snowball. In the summer she always checked on it, but with episodes like "The Blizzard" and "Return of the Snowball," the timeline is messed up.

If Arthur were set during the summertime, like Phineas and Ferb, that would be great! But what will become of Mr. Ratburn? Please don't have anyone go through Summer School!

Series Discussion / Re: Forced Celebrity Guest Spots
« on: October 29, 2012, 09:22:49 pm »
There have been two instances where they brought back celebrity guest stars: Lance Armstrong (seasons 12 and 13) and Joan Rivers (seasons 12 and 15).

For "Elwood City Turns 100," Muffy invited past guest stars. Larry King was the only guest star to not be animated.

They have even had "celebrity guest stars" that I've never even heard of. The Finnish ABBA-like band that played Binky, Arthur Ganson,  Koko Taylor, Taj Mahal, Frank Gehry, Mike Finke (I did see him on the CBS Evening News recently).

Series Discussion / Re: Teen Arthur? Let's discuss!
« on: October 29, 2012, 09:08:26 pm »
I remember reading an interview with Marc Brown--I think it was in Parade Magazine, but I'm not sure--that Brown said Arthur would always be an 8-year old. That's too bad because I would so like to see a series of Arthur as a teen. I wish I could find the article!

I was picturing a live action movie where the characters are human. Actually, I was picturing Arthur in college, D.W. in high school, and Kate in junior high. Perhaps an all-star cast?

Series Discussion / Re: Season 16's hatred

If I were to picture Arthur's animation to change, I would have thought Between the Lions shorts. But I'm glad that they didn't go in that direction.

I assumed that Arthur would stop with at most six seasons because usually PBS's animated series last no longer than that while the live action ones (Sesame Street, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow) last for decades.

There are two animated kids' shows that I know of that have ran for almost as long as Arthur: SpongeBob SquarePants and Pokemon. I don't know whether the original viewers of those shows are getting tired of them or not.

Series Discussion / Re: How much Arthur have you seen?
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:41:41 pm »
I've seen every Arthur episode except one: "Tales of Grotesquely Grim Bunny;" it sounded to dark to me.

I remember that back when there were six seasons, they played all the episodes in chronological order, so I knew when my favorite episodes were on. There was I time when I had two PBS channels, and Arthur was on four or five times a day! So when there was an episode on that I really liked I would watch it three times. I think I mostly did this with episodes from season 4 and season 6. When they started to play seasons 5 and 8 a lot, I watched a lot less Arthur.

You should watch the second half of season 14, Muppetfan. I actually thought that it was much better than the first half. The running gag with the "El Boomerang" soccer ball was brilliant.

I lot of your predictions seem like episodes that have been done before. Therefore, they're plausible.

My favorite season premiere is undoubtedly season 6's "Sue Ellen Chickens Out"/"Best of the Nest."

Here's what I thought about season 16:

I actually prefer the Flash animation. It seems more Marc Brown-like to me.

I like Ladonna and Bud. I wonder if we'll get to see any of the other siblings they keep talking about. One thing I didn't understand why both Ladonna and Bud were asked if their first names were short for anything. They don't seem like diminutive forms of names to me.

I was never a fan of Arthur's dream sequences, and I'm still not.

I was glad that Cheikh was present this season. It's a shame that he didn't have any lines.

I seem to remember D.W. talking about Amanda in "So Long, Spanky." I think she had a bottlecap collection?

What I liked about "Baby Steps" was that once again D.W. asks Brain for help (I like those moments). Too bad it was a Kate and Pal episode.

On "Get Smart" what HUGO reminded me of was Watson the computer from the Jeopardy! challenge. I thought it was interesting that the actor who did the voice of Hugo was Jamie Watson.

Assuming that there will be more episodes, is there any chance that any of the season 17 episodes have already aired in Australia of wherever?
