At last, a post that isn't a troll or feeding said troll.

I always took issue with that scene as well. She even pays Buster, crediting him for all the work while completely ignoring Arthur. It's almost as if she and Buster were in cahoots.

What was with all those extra students in Mr. Ratburn's class in "Desk Wars" anyway? They were never seen before that episode and were never seen after. Or was it just an animation error, like how Prunella would randomly appear in Mr. Ratburn's class in the older episodes?

I just caught the Hebrew version of "Caught in the Crosswires" on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e18Sky3-Sg).

From my very, very, very basic knowledge of the Hebrew language (and a little help from Google Translator) it was actually a good episode from what little I understood from the dialogue. It definitely does make up for Muffy's poor character development in the 9storyverse eps. I did think the parody of reality shows was a bit dated, though.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD, if you'd rather wait for the English version to air...

The highlight of the episode was Muffy asking Bailey if she is spoiled, and him answering "It's a possibility." Bailey then asks Muffy if he is spineless, and she tells him he's the bravest man she's ever known (apart from her dad, of course).

Bailey definitely has become a surrogate father to Muffy, further evidenced by the fact that her parents completely ignore her throughout the episode as they try to hog the cameras' attention with their Crosswire Motors advertisements.

Another scene I liked was J. Cube (the reality show producer) trying to amp up the drama in the show by convincing Muffy that the soup Bailey served her was scalding hot, and Muffy arguing that it isn't...
Quote
J. Cube: Bailey served you a bowl of boiling hot soup? What kind of monster does such a thing?
Muffy: Um, it isn't that hot.
J. Cube: But it could have been.
Muffy: But it's not.
J. Cube: Maybe a little?
Muffy: No, it isn't.
At least that's what I got out of translating it. I just found that scene to be funny for some reason.

Some other things...
- Bailey is revealed to be 37 years old.
- Mommie Dearest reference ("Wire hangers?! WIRE HANGERS?!")
- Not specific to the episode, but the Hebrew version of Buster sounds like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings films.

I too was surprised to see Chip and Catherine together in Brain Freeze, only to be disappointed a few seconds later to learn it was just Brain daydreaming. Though it makes me wonder if Brain was made aware of their potential relationship at some point, through either Francine or Muffy.

Muffy hasn't been without her moments in the 9storyverse. She showed a bit of complexity in "Muffy Takes the Wheel", how she didn't want to take credit for her dad's work on her project. And in "Just the Ticket" she called and told the other kids about Arthur abandoning the tickets, when she could have done the typical Muffy thing and taken them for herself without anyone knowing.

I hope Molly hasn't become a background character, especially after her big moment in TLTC.

Poor George. First Muffy, and now Francine commandeering a topic that was originally about him.

I think it's just easy from a writing standpoint to place Muffy in those kinds of roles, as is making her the villain, or a foil to make another character-- usually Francine 9 times out of 10-- look good, etc.

Plus she makes for a convenient scapegoat whenever the kids are being mean as a group. Going back to "Vomitrocious" (just so we're not completely straying from the original topic  ;)), when all the kids are making fun and laughing at George in the Sugar Bowl, Muffy is the only one out of all of them who is actually shown laughing.

I've taken a liking to Muffy for those reasons, out of spite for the lazy writing. :) Plus it's fun to root for the villain every once in a while.  ;)

As for her hair, it's safe to say that she has worn more hairstyles than any other character.

Laziness on the part of the character design department? That's the only explation I can think of regarding Bud's permanently attached headwear.

Same here with getting nosebleeds. I'm also susceptible to nasal allergies which just makes it even worse. Funnily enough though, unlike George I was never made fun of for it as a kid. The few times I had a nosebleed at school, the other kids were concerned that I was dying or something.

Notice though that future episodes involving George never mention his nosebleed problem again. I guess it was one of those one-episode-only things that the show is known for. :)

I agree about the duality of Francine's character. Muffy has that same quirk as well, albeit on a much more subtle level.

But other times it's overdone to the point that I find it offensive. Take the episode where Jenna is a bedwetter. Early on, Francine makes fun of Jenna behind her back (literally), that she can't sleep anywhere without her mommy and daddy. Then at the end of the episode, Jenna tries to hide the fact that the pullup is hers by passing it off as being someone else's. Francine tells her off, saying that she might have hurt somebody's feelings. Gee Francine, what about Jenna's feelings when you were making fun of her behind her back a day ago?

I just assumed Buster did buy the candy bar. We just didn't see him actually pay for it because it wasn't relevant to the main story.

I also noticed George eating the wrapper as well as the bar. I can't imagine that ending too well for George. He's going to end up in the hospital with not only a trienzomated zorn jelly addiction, but also an intestinal blockage.

Or maybe candy wrappers in the Arthurverse are edible. It cuts down on littering!

Snowth, I was just about to come here and comment that "Just the Ticket" sounded like an copy of a Rocko's Modern Life episode ("With Friends Like These" is the episode, if anyone was curious).

He does still work on the show, as the voice of Slink. Though I'm not sure if he's always had that role or if they just gave it to him at some point (too bad for the other guy who voiced the character).

Remember those "Kideo" videos from about 10 years ago where you send in a picture of you or your child, and they paste the face on to a generic cartoon character?

"Arthur's New Friend" was that...

Michael Yarmush still seemed to be the voice of Arthur here, so it must have been made around Season 5 or so.

Sorry to jump this topic back to "So Funny I Forgot To Laugh," but I just saw a scene that made me realize that Sue Ellen is probably the biggest hypocrite in the entire show.

If Sue Ellen was upset because Arthur teased her about her sweater, then tell me what is wrong with this picture:

*pic of Sue Ellen and Muffy laughing at Arthur's Cosby sweater*
Unless Sue Ellen spent the remainder of the episode making fun of Arthur's sweater or comparing him to some animal, it doesn't really make her a hypocrite. Merely laughing at someone's clothing doesn't constitute bullying in my book. Even Sue Ellen was willing to take a joke about her own sweater at first, even laughing along.

I still don't forgive her for physically threatening Arthur in "Arthur Cleans Up", though.

I like the idea of comparing character shots. I'd use Season 7 as a base; that's when the animation looked its best, IMO.

As I said before, watching the "It's Only Rock 'n Roll" special makes me depressed because the animation will probably never look that good again. It's ahead of the 3D movie and Season 16 by miles.
