Series Discussion / Was "Glasses For DW" ever adapted into an episode?

I could of sworn that I read this somewhere on the internet, but the Arthur Wiki does not say anything about it.

Episodes / You Are Arthur
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:33:56 pm »
I thought that the concept of this episode had a lot of potential, but I thought that the execution was a bit lacking. Some of the things that Arthur did were much too out of the ordinary, like him saying "Ten fingers, ten toes, yep! I'm all here!" when he wakes up, and how he is is constantly looking at himself in an reflective surface. I realize that they did this to remind the viewers that they were in face in a first person view of Arthur, but it did seem a little weird. I also kind of wish that they did a little bit more of a normal day schedule. Specifically, I would have liked to see some of Arthur's day at school.

Episodes / Night Fright
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:44:50 am »
What did everyone think about this episode? I always thought that it was rather good, considering its universal moral and how entertaining Binky's fake niceness was. Although, the Elwood City Downtown Core did make an interesting comment when they reviewed it: Why Binky? Arthur could have gone with any number of friends, or even grandma Thora, but they decided to go with Binky's family? Not the worst decision, but it just seems odd considering that I didn't even realize that Jane and David knew Binky's Parents (or do they? Did this happen in another episode?).

Mr. Ratburn's cackle was very... interesting, although very funny. The ways that other students dealt with their fears were also a bit unusual.

Episodes / Arthur's Almost Boring Day
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:49:41 pm »
Personally, I though that this episode had a good ending and a lot of comical situations throughout Arthur and DW's day. It managed to capture the feeling of a REALLY boring day without boring the watcher, in my opinion. A lot of the scenes had me laughing, like how Brain chants the rain away with an explanation of the water cycle, Arthur's face when DW complains about being outside in the rain, and when DW draws a stick.

Fan Creations / My Five Arthur 11-Minute Episode Screenplays
« on: May 14, 2013, 12:31:52 am »
Back in January, I wrote a FanFiction for Arthur in the format of an actual screenplay. I posted it on FanFiction.net, where it got several reviews and hundreds of views, despite almost all of the FanFiction in the section being obscene and having terrible grammar and writing techniques. Due to the feedback, I wrote four more, which were also received very positively.

All of them are in screenplay format, with one of them also having a normally written version of the same story. I tried to make them 11 minutes just like an episode, but I got carried away in most of them. Each one is in the range of 4500-6500 words.

These are the screenplays that I have written so far:

Home Alone!: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9005028/1/Home-Alone
This is my personal favorite episode. It is about Jane and David's babysitter suddenly canceling on them on a night where they must go to a very important meeting. They eventually have to leave Arthur in charge of DW and Kate for a night, much to DW's resentment. DW tries to make Arthur out to be a terrible person. but eventually realizes that he's not so bad as a babysitter.

Arthur's Tonsils: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9045857/1/Arthur-s-Tonsils
This is by far my most popular episode. I didn't initially want to write it, but a fan of mine pushed me into writing it. I'm glad I did, as it came out as a very well done episode about Arthur getting many tonsil infections during a year, so many that doctors recommend that his tonsils are removed. I tried to not focus on the surgery portion, as that had already been done in "Operation: DW," but more on the recovery from the surgery. DW's assistance is also a bit more helpful now than when Arthur had the chicken pox.

The Broken Bone: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8939152/1/The-Broken-Bone
My first episode. This episode, as the title implies, is about Arthur breaking his arm due to him not paying attention during a hockey tryout. He tries, with some difficulty, to adjust to life as a person with a broken arm. He realizes that everyday activities will become chores, and that things will take quite a while to do. Meanwhile, DW thinks that her having to get a shot is more important than Arthur's arm.

Hard At Work: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9182421/1/Hard-At-Work
My Most recent episode, also the one that connects most with my personal life. Arthur and Buster both want to buy a new video game system coming out (The Satellite), but it costs 300 dollars. Jane and David, as usual, are not going to give Arthur any money, nor will Bitzi give money to Buster. They both stumble upon the opportunity to get a job with Mrs. MacGrady, as she is short on staff. They both get jobs, but they seem to be the wrong fit for them, and they have some trouble adapting.

The Writing Contest: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8973408/1/The-Writing-Contest
A local flight school at the airport in town is offering a contest open to students in Elwood City, the grand prize being an aerobatic ride in an airplane. Buster becomes paranoid that Arthur is stealing his ideas, eventually escalating to the point where he breaks off his friendship with Arthur. They eventually make up, but not before Buster learns his lesson.

Please let me know what you think of these episodes, I'll likely be writing more.

Series Discussion / What is the "Arthur Model Pack?"
« on: May 06, 2013, 11:01:49 pm »
Two users on this forum (Earwig and Dark Bunny) have referred to something called the "Arthur TV Series Main Model Pack," which was also called the "Original Model Pack." From what I've seen, this seems to be a collection of documents such as Storyboards, floor plans, and character animation sets. Both Dark Bunny and Earwig both seem to have a lot of "Inside Information" about Arthur, so is it possible that they are Arthur producers (or at least have connections to them)?

Postcards from Buster / Unrealistic Airplane Moments
« on: April 24, 2013, 11:15:26 pm »
I usually not the type to nitpick with realism in TV Shows, especially cartoons, but I just couldn't help but notice the unrealistic performance of the private jet, and the unrealistic piloting of Bo Baxter.

I can safely say that virtually no pilots ever have both hands on the yoke (steering wheel), but Bo always has his hands firmly planted on the yoke whenever we see him in the ****pit. The ONLY time pilots (including myself) have both hands on a yoke is when we do aerobatics, but I don't think that big jet is going to be doing aerobatic stunts (Actually, Bo does do a roll in the plane during the theme song, he's just living on the edge, isn't he?).

In "Buster In Mackinac," Buster comments on how they landed the plane in "The tiniest airport" he's ever seen. The jet looks a lot like a Cessna Citation jet, which needs over 3,000 feet of runway to land, and over 5,000 to take off. In fact, when they show live action footage of a plane landing there, you can clearly see the propeller in front of the camera, as a jet would have no hopes of landing there.

Once again, I love this show and I'm not trying to be overly critical to it, I just thought that these bits were a bit unrealistically funny.

EDIT: Hmm, the forum censor has prevented me from saying cockpit, I didn't know that it would censor profanity INSIDE of words. Just know that I'm talking about the area where the pilots sit.

Characters / Mr. Ratburn
« on: April 24, 2013, 11:00:35 pm »
I'm surprised that nobody has made a thread about Mr. Ratburn yet. These are my thoughts on him:

When I first saw "Arthur And The Real Mr. Ratburn," my initial thoughts were along the lines of, "He really doesn't mess around!" "He is more strict than any of my high school teachers even were" and "Does Mrs. Sweetwater's class do ANYTHING?" One of my least favorite actions of a new teacher was when they began the year with a quiz, even before introducing themselves. I though that he was a bit over the top with his organization of his classroom, and I was always the type who enjoyed strict teachers. Also, I know that Arthur and his friends are kids, but come on, death row? I didn't think that they would listen to such rumors. Additionally, I thought that the producers rounded off his personality nicely with the end of the episode.

I also thought that it was good to pair this episode with "Arthur's Spelling Trubble," as that episode shows Mr. Ratburn continuing to be supportive of his students, such as when he encourages Arthur and compliments him after his victory.

One thing that always struck me as insane is the amount of homework that he gives, in addition to the difficulty of it. In "Mom And Dad Have A Great Big Fight," Arthur is using a big stack of dot-matrix printer paper (does that paper have a proper name) just to do his math homework, which appears to be a lot of long division, a concept that I don't believe is introduced until fourth grade. Sometimes he also gives some insane math for third graders. I have seen math like "(X24)5=(1/2)ME3" on his board before.
