Episodes / Desert Island Dish
« on: June 24, 2013, 08:48:37 pm »
This episode airs Friday. I have only seen it once because it isn't one of my favorites. One of the reasons I didn't like it was because I was disappointed in the ending. Well, I know that there isn't any one fruit, vegetable, grain, etc. that doesn't provide all the nutrients you need. But if there were characters that thought of junk food, couldn't they have perhaps thought of a meal that had all the food groups like...

1. A salad

2. A pizza

3. Mrs. Powers' ice cream (That one is more of a joke, but I did think of it while watching "Desert Island Dish."

I'm fine with them saying that it's not healthy to eat only one food. It's just that it's frustrating when an Arthur episode emphasizes the extreme negative but then miss an obvious, similar alternative.

News / More Arthur episodes on Netflix
« on: January 08, 2013, 10:19:24 pm »
Every now and then I glance through the menu of Instant Netflix. The good news is that they now have episodes from seasons 1 through 9. The bad news is that seasons 1 through 3 only have the first ten episodes per season.

Books / The Chapter Books vs. the Episodes
« on: November 10, 2012, 07:00:50 pm »
Has anybody ever read the Arthur Chapter Books? I've read a few: The ones based on "Arthur Accused!", "Buster's Dino Dilemma," and "The Big Blow-Up." Do you think any of the chapter books are better than the episodes they were based on? I know that I liked the episodes "Buster's Dino Dilemma" and the "Big Blow-Up" more than the chapter books. As for "Arthur Accused!", I'm not sure.

Episodes / Which episode has the best quotes?
« on: November 10, 2012, 06:52:25 pm »
The back-to-back episodes that I think have the best quotes are "Arthur vs. the Piano" and "The Big Blow-Up."

"Arthur vs. the Piano": I like the conversation between Ms. Krasney and Binky about "ear-painting,"  when D.W. said to Grandma Thora, "Grandma, you're so smart. Now my head won't pop off!", and when Buster said, "That's it! Next time I'm playing 'Jingle Bells!" (at a spring recital).

"The Big Blow-Up": Some of the greatest quotes were when D.W. asked Arthur to help her with her letter to Santa. "In May?" (another Christmas in spring joke) "Do you know how many letters he gets in December? I want to beat the rush!" And then, "Dear Santa, Is it tough being the world's most handsome man?" (It is if you're Tim Allen!) Oh, and as for the quotes associated with Francine and Brain's fight, I liked it when Francine said to Brain, "Go fish, yourself!"

D.W. and Brain parallel: D.W. says, "No way!" in "Arthur vs. the Piano," and Brain says, "No way!" in "The Big Blow-Up."

Characters / The Official D.W. and Brain Thread
« on: November 06, 2012, 08:12:17 pm »
Have you ever noticed that D.W. and Brain have a lot in common? And when I say they have a lot in common, I mean they have a lot in common.

I first noticed this during the second half of season 2, when Buster was away with his dad. I thought that it was a clever idea, except there were times when I thought that D.W. and Brain were too out-of-character (D.W. was too smart, Brain was too dumb, etc.)

For the first five seasons I thought that the gag of D.W. and Brain having a lot in common was mostly used during the second half of season 2, and that it was a sort of a foreshadowing of D.W. and Brain becoming friends. It wasn't until I spotted a lot of similarities between D.W. and Brain during season 6 that I realized the gag has been used frequently throughout the entire series, even during season 1!

And, believe it or not, two characters having a lot in common is not original to Arthur. I've seen this running gag used on other TV shows like:

Leave It to Beaver (Beaver and June)

Green Acres (Lisa and Eb)

Get Smart (Max and Larabee)

Scooby Doo, Where Are You! (Scooby and Shaggy)

Full House (Michelle and Joey)
