It recently came to my attention that the Arthur Facebook page has been hinting around at a big announcement to come over the holiday season, so I thought that maybe we could do some speculating.
Any ideas on what it could be?
-
An Arthur fighting game? An Arthur first person shooter game? A video game of some sort? What is it?
-
Though I doubt it's an Arthur fighting game, a video game is a possibility...
I'm wondering if since its the holiday season that they're announcing it, maybe it ties in to the holidays? Some new piece of blockbuster merchandise?
It could even be as simple as a new Arthur special, which, when you think about it, might make sense, as 9 Story might want to explore some new options now that they are at the helm of things.

That was my assumption as I was reading your opening post.

I think it could be likely, but then I have to wonder why they would take on such a large project after just beginning to be involved with the franchise...it just seems to me that it would have made more sense for them to wait a year or two to do that until they are well established within the franchise, see how the new season is received, etc.
I wonder if an Arthur movie could even be a possibility, though with the new animation, I'm not sure that it would even do well...
Wait where on the Facebook page is the hinting? Because I don't see it.
I am getting this info from someone else, however I posted about it because I know them well enough to put full confidence in them that they do know what they're talking about. I will find that out, though.

I am thinking maybe a special is what is on my mind. Arthur really hasn't had a special in 10 years now (Sorry due to the fact Arthur's Missing Pal was never referenced in any of the episodes it really doesn't count to me).

Arthur's Missing Pal was in a whole different field of play...if anything I think it was more of an experiment than a special. Hopefully if this is a special, it is an actual special rather than some off the wall thing like AMP was.

Yeah I agree.

Probably because it'd be confusing for them, since we don't have the same Thanksgivings: our American Thanksgiving falls on the last Thursday of November, and we remember the pilgrims arriving on the new land, and the natives sharing what they had with them, including the first Thanksgiving feast; their Canadian Thanksgiving is like the first Monday of October, and I forget how they celebrate it, but I don't believe pilgrims and indians are involved.
-
However note that "Francine's Pilfered Paper" takes place over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
-
It's probably...
1. Another holiday special
2. Another contest
3. Another Arthur Live show. I remember there being one years ago. I think it was based on "Arthur's Lucky Pencil." Maybe they'll do Arthur On Ice, like all the ice shows D.W. and Emily talk about.

What it could be is monumental at this point. It could be just about anything including and bear with me on this another spin off revolving around another character.

If anything, I would like to see a spinoff involving D.W. and her friends/classmates. The series already feels kind of divided between Arthur and his friends and D.W. and her friends. Splitting into two separate series would be the most sensible way to go, I'd think. The D.W. series could be geared towards the preschool-age viewers while the Arthur series will still be for the tween-and-older crowd.
...I'm getting way off subject here, so I'll stop.

Half of us know somebody who would just absolutely blow his brains out if a spin-off was made based off the episode "In My Africa".

Here we go...

So... that's what the something big about to happen was? Reaching a million likes or whatever on Facebook?
Yeah, I'm going to go back to my life now.

Actually that idea doesn't sound half bad. If the idea is considered I just hope it doesn't compete with other shows that are aimed at preschool children.

No...you didn't read the link well enough...we're only talking about the very bottom of the article, at the tail end, where it says that on Facebook, fans will be receiving a special announcement during the holiday season...I'm sourcing where this info came from as some users didn't know where the big thing thing was coming from.
-
This is apparently the special. This announcement came from Facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/PBSArthur
I'm excited to announce that my one-hour special, "Arthur's Perfect Christmas," will be airing on PBS KIDS this holiday season (check your local listings). You'll have multiple chances to watch, including a special primetime broadcast on Sunday, December 16th!
Celebrate and help a great cause by sharing this fun holiday eCard with your friends and family!
https://www.facebook.com/PBSArthur/app_273592132743668
For every 50 eCards shared, now through December 31, 2012, WGBH will donate 1 Arthur plush doll to a Boston-area hospital (up to a maximum of 50 dolls).
-
I personally think what they are doing with Arthur's Perfect Christmas and using it to donate plush dolls to a hospital is pretty good if you ask me.
-
A alternate version of Arthur where his dad is in the mafia. That first person shooter could work, but I can see a R-rated Arthur film.
