After last year's Season 16 topic, I thought it would be a good idea to start a topic discussing the new season out in November.Any opinions on Season 17 before the premiere?
-
I'm sorry, but these all sound terrible. I'm skipping the entire first episode of the season altogether, to have TWO talking Pal and Kate entries in the entire half hour, that's beyond overkill.
Buster sucking his thumb? Seriously? Like when Brain was held back in kindergarten? Really?
And these stories have been done before, if not on ARTHUR, on other cartoons: "Molina's Mulligan" (what?) was an episode of RECESS, "Just the Ticket" was an episode of ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE, "Kidonia"was two different episodes of ED, EDD N EDDY (one where the Eds build their own city called Edtropolis, another where the Ed and Eddy convince the other cul-de-sac kids to forget about rules), and "Opposites Distract" is a plot that's been done a million times already.
-
I know some of these episodes sound like their plots have been done already (Maybe Kidonia will be different, considering we haven't got an official summary yet) and I'm also annoyed by the Pal and Kate ones, but I've learned that they usually air one or two Pal/Kate episodes per season, and that's it. Look at Fifteen from Season 15 and Baby Steps last season.
Looks like this season is in for more episodes where Arthur is the main role, but only in the first half. I'm also looking forward to seeing if the animation is going to be good or bad.
-
Oh, I just read Kidonia's official summary and it sounded like it's been done before somewhere...
-
Well I did see some of these episodes are using recycled plots from past episodes. A trend I see. Good to see that the Molinas are still around and have not been eliminated from the show all together.
-
Snowth, I was just about to come here and comment that "Just the Ticket" sounded like an copy of a Rocko's Modern Life episode ("With Friends Like These" is the episode, if anyone was curious).
-
Yup. Rocko wins two tickets to a wrestling match that both Heffer and Filburt were dying to see, so they both begin to smother him with friendly gestures hoping he'll choose him over the other.
-
It was also the plot of an episode of Disney's "The Weekenders" where Tino wins two passes to a concert the foursome has had a really hard time getting tickets for. The other three (and even others) all try to win him over.
In the end, Tino is able to take everyone because they're passes, which are redeemable for two tickets each. Let's see if the Arthur episode ends a similar way...
-
Weirdly, I just noticed that All Thumbs sounds like I Wanna Hold Your Hand, except with Arthur and Buster rather than Binky and George.
-
To go off topic a little, did anyone noticed how the second half of Season 16 looked different from the first half? The colours were brighter and warmer, and you got a soft blurred feeling when looking at them. Will Season 17 be like that?
Also, I hope that this season we'll see more of D.W insulting Arthur like in Baby Steps and Night of the Tibble last season.
-
One thing I'm really looking forward to is more of Ladonna. I like Sweet Petunia already. ;D
On the downside, I wish they wouldn't do episodes wholly focused on the world of animals. Or babies, for that matter. It just feels too disconnected from the main cast and sort of like a Rugrats knock-off...though the idea of Kate gradually losing the ability to communicate with Pal as she grew older was very clever, I must admit.
-
Actually, 'Just the Ticket' sounds like an episode of Friendship Is Magic, 'The Ticket Master,' where Twilight Sparkle receives two tickets to the Grand Gala and her friends squabble over the spare ticket. I know numerous other cartoons with episodes like that.
'Ladonna Compson: Party Animal' and 'Adventures in Budylon' sound like they have potential. I hope we get to see more of Ladonna's family, and maybe her parents.
I wish someone from Australia who's seen the episodes could record them on YouTube. I would love to see the Ladonna/Bud episode pair, 'Go Fly a Kite', 'Caught In the Crosswires', and 'Brain Freeze'.

No videos of Season 17 Arthur promos yet?

As of October 22nd..... Now there is. :D

-
Gosh, the animation is even worse: not only is it still stiff and robotic, but now it's also really choppy and jerky, not even smooth at all.
-
It looks a bit much better compared to Season 16. Still more room for improvement.
-
Wow, pretty good animation. I can't wait :). I see in that clip at night they are shaded nicely.
-
I'm pretty much hyped up for this. Can't wait to see what happens in Season 17.
-
I like the animation. I think that the jerkiness was an encoding error from when the promo was being edited. The animation looks a lot better than early season sixteen, but I am still noticing some oddities. The colors are still a little too bright, and the characters' axes still seem to move just a little bit too independently. As a whole, the animation does seem to be a big improvement from season sixteen.
-
I didn't think today's episode was too awful bad... I think "Adventures in Budylon" at least makes an attempt to encourage children to use their imagination, which is something a lot of kids seem to lack these days since they're getting hooked on video games and cellphones and the internet at such early ages. One thing I did notice, however, was that D.W. sounds like she was losing her voice the whole time, does she have another voice actor?
"Ladonna Compson: Party Animal" seemed to scream, "SCRAPPY!!!" at first, but it was kind of interesting... some observations I made were
1. Gee whiz, Ladonna's bedroom is HUGE... is her family rich or something? And why does she have two beds in her bedroom? I thought she might share her room with Bud, but apparently he has his own room.
2. Uh, people from the south don't pronounce "either" as "eye-ther", we say, "ee-ther".
3. Is it just me, or did Binky's voice sound a little deeper than usual? I don't quite mean like it did in the first season, but rather like perhaps Bruce Dinsmore probably go quite that high anymore.
This whole new, "Which Arthur character are you?" segment at the end... uh... if it were a little more interactive, it could probably work, otherwise, did nothing for me.
One more thing I do have to bring up... maybe it's just me, but I kept getting a shiptease vibe between Arthur and Ladonna throughout the whole show... anyone else?
-
I loved the latest episode. Ladonna was great in Party Animal, and is quickly becoming my favorite character. I hope they spin her off into her own series. Plus, it's hard to go wrong with a festive Autumn setting.
Favorite moment: "I promised Binky I'd bake the Tibbles at 3:00..." :D
Creepiest moment: Bud sitting by Ladonna's bed and watching her while she's sleeping. Seriously...what the heck? :P
1. Gee whiz, Ladonna's bedroom is HUGE... is her family rich or something? And why does she have two beds in her bedroom? I thought she might share her room with Bud, but apparently he has his own room.
I've also noticed the size of her house and how odd it was that she had two beds in her bedroom. At first, I assumed she maybe shared it with her sister, but it doesn't have the appearance of being a shared room. If her father's a Captain in the Army, it might be feasible. With, say, 15 years in service, a wife and four kids, he'd make about $104,000 a year. He'd probably also get a substantial break on other things like mortgages and car loans through the GI Bill.
I know this might be off topic, but I've noticed that almost all of the characters in Elwood City seem to be pretty well off -- except for Francine, of course. It's a bit irksome seeing everyone living like that while the "less fortunate kid" on the block is the one whose lifestyle is really much closer to that of the average American family.
One more thing I do have to bring up... maybe it's just me, but I kept getting a shiptease vibe between Arthur and Ladonna throughout the whole show... anyone else?
I agree regarding the "shiptease" observation near the end. It almost seemed romantic how they walked off together into what could have just as well been a sunset.
-
For those who had captions on, it gave Mrs. Compson a first name. I am currently reviewing my recording to check what it was.
Good catch, Magne. By the way, did anyone notice how dramatically improved the animation on today's episode was? Compared to the last season, I have to say it's getting better.
-
Maybe I missed something, who are the other two Compson kids? Yeah, I missed some of Season 16, such as Ladonna and Bud's debut.
-
Assuming they're not both just figments of Ladonna's baroque imagination...her other brother is Gussie, and her sister is Madison. Both of them appear to be in their teens.
Madison shows up in "Based on a True Story" in one of Ladonna's tales about an alligator sneaking into their house, and then later to take Bud somewhere or another.
Gussie is only briefly mentioned in the same episode. He supposedly worked at an alligator sanctuary.
-
Very true...
...although, it raises the question of whether or not those scenes were merely part of another one of Ladonna's stories in which she was simply watching as a passive, first-person observer.
In fact, we are now left to wonder whether or not the RV, the Read house, Arthur himself, Elwood City, and the entire Arthur universe isn't just part of an elaborate fantasy world that exists inside of Ladonna's imagination. Something that she, a sad and lonely girl, has been imagining as a passive observer for the past 16 years. This would explain why she is taller and older-looking than her peers, and perhaps why she is the only central character who is from a real-world location.
Now, as she reaches adulthood, the barrier between fantasy and reality has begun to dissolve as she finds herself interacting directly with this dream world. Indeed, her very introduction into the series was marked by a harsh lesson that she should stop lying and fantasizing. This was a cryptic messenger symbolizing her realization that the disparate worlds of fantasy and reality cannot continue to coexist for long.
Soon, one of two things must happen: (1) the fantasy world will collapse abruptly and the show will be cancelled; or (2) she will lose all touch with the real world and live the remainder of her schizophrenic life as an anthropomorphic bunny in a safe, happy, animated fantasy world.
This will be the premise of her new spinoff series. Filmed in black and white celluloid. Directed by David Lynch.

or this could just be a show about talking aardvarks.
that was funnier than I thought.
-
Today's episode was good, better than I expected it to be.
"Molina's Mulligan" turned out to be rather relatable: the way Mr. Molina was always so enthusiastic and proud over everything Alberto got himself involved in reminds me a lot of my mom, she's the same way, she often times will bring me up in a conversation for the sake of talking about me, "Oh, by the way, my son runs his own production company, he's a puppeteer, you should look at his work, he's on YouTube!" while I do all I can to keep my eyes from rolling, because nobody cares, lol. One thing I couldn't help but notice was that it would seem both Mr. Molina and Alberto have new voices; Alberto's new voice sounds almost identical to his original voice, but just a little more wooden, while Mr. Molina's voice sounds a tad deeper than usual, and a little heavier on the accent. But it was a good entry, like I said, very relatable, I enjoyed it.
"Buster Bombs" was great. Stories that focus on Buster seem to always be good, and it was actually fun to see how desperate he grew in trying to stay funny, and the more he tried and the more desperate he grew, the more pathetic he became... I actually couldn't help but chuckle at how he was covered in almost every kind of pie filling you could imagine by the time he was finished with that "experiment" (I kind of wish I knew what it was like for a pie in the face to actually be funny like it was in the olden days of comedy). Vince Ruckles didn't seem to be too much of a ringer of Don Rickles, but at least he left Buster with some pearls of wisdom that came in handy: Buster really did genuinely stop trying to be funny, and he became his naturally funny self again (though at the same time, the fact that Mrs. MacGrady and the others were still expecting him to try to be funny kind of defeated the purpose just a tad).
The "Which Arthur character are you?" segment made a little more sense today, but I still think it would be a good idea if the segment was actually interactive, like say, offer a choice of three different characters, ask a few multiple choice questions, and if they answered mostly As, they're one character, mostly Bs another, mostly Cs another... but, that's just me.
-
Regarding Molina's Mulligan:
* Bionic Bunny does the opening before the title card, and yes, Bionic Bunny is still voiced by Arthur "Mr. Ratburn" Holden.
* Does Ramon Molena have a new lighter brown hair style?
* Glad to see the return of Muffy's big brother Chip Crosswire, did he slim down a little since he last appeared in "Matchmaker, Match Breaker"?
-
Mrs. Compson's first name is not Cisely.
-
I ended up missing the beginning of "Opposites Distract" and the end of "Just the Ticket", so I'm afraid I can't really invest a whole lot of into the entire episode, but based on what I have seen, while both entries were enjoyable, as predicted, they were both rather cliched. As far as "Opposites Distract" go, I did like the whole reference/shout out to THE ODD COUPLE (and I guess they intended this episode to air yesterday, because the announcer in the Imagine Spot said Arthur left his house on November 13, which was yesterday), and I love D.W.'s little Bond villain/Dr. Evil thing she had going on when Buster came to see her (but what was with the whole, "MOM! BUSTER'S LOOKING AT ME!" thing?) "Just the Ticket" was just as I predicted it, because... well, the story's been done before. I knew all of Arthur's friends were basically going to badger him into picking them to go to the concert with him, and I kind of figured he would try to look for ways to get rid of the tickets to get himself out of the situation.
Still not used to Sue Ellen's new voice (this time, she sounded like Francine wearing jock straps too tight), and Francine and Muffy's eyes being too close together.
-
For "Opposites Distract": I thought D.W. was still doing her Read and Flumbergast office situation.
And I'm glad Sonja Ball still voices Arthur's mother Mrs. Jane Read, but we haven't heard any voice parts for Arthur's father Mr. David Read yet in the 9 Story Arthur era!
-
Oh, and another thing I found odd... they were all wearing headphones to drown out the sounds of the phone ringing and messaged beeping, yet, it was on the sides of their heads (like humans), while their ears were completely exposed... and yet, they somehow couldn't hear anything, lol!
-
Overall, I think things have still been going strong with the past few episodes.
I initially didn't notice the earmuff/aardvark ear thing at first, but I've been chuckling about it ever since it was pointed out here. :D Whether or not it was intentionally subtle humor or just plain oversight, I've not a clue.
On that note, favorite moment: Brain pointing out to Muffy that there are no monkeys in North America, followed by Muffy recounting an "amazing" story about how her father was bitten by a monkey. Let's never mind the fact that Muffy and her father are both monkeys...
I actually think having Chip around detracts from Muffy's character. She functions better as a single child, as it amplifies her "all about me" aura. Seeing her fawn over an older brother just seems out of character for her. Although, I'd imagine taming her character in that manner might make her more likeable to a lot of viewers. Nonetheless, I've grown to rather appreciate her horrible little self over the years.
I also really appreciated the Gallagher homage. ;D

"All Thumbs/Kidonia" was better than I expected it to be today."All Thumbs" was totally relatable for children that age...plus,my cousin is in 6th grade and still sucks his thumb.(He says its because of his parents' "tramautizing" divorce.)Drew Adkins also kinda sounds like a good Arthur now.And it was good to see Mr.Read finally speak this season,I mean, sure,he's been seen, but never talks,it's kinda like Jane and him are on the outs or he's depressed or something."Kidonia" also lived up to my expectations, kids coming up with their own country,I can honestly tell you that me and my friends came up with our own country in elementary school,so,again, totally relatable. The only part that I didn't like about it was that the conflict about Kidonia was never really resolved.Anyway, here's my rating of each episode this season on a scale of 1 to 10.
"Show Off":6
"Dog's Best Friend":8
"Adventures In Budylon":5
"Ladonna Compson:Party Animal":2
"Molina's Mulligan":4
"Buster Bombs":7
"Opposites Distract":9
"Just The Ticket":9
"All Thumbs":8
"Kidonia":10

"All Thumbs" was pretty bad... I figured it would be. Arthur was a little harsh in being critical on Buster for sucking his thumb, of course I noticed that Dietrich Smith was the writer, and most people say he's one of the worst writers on the show. But yeah, this was pretty bad. And the way Francine and Muffy kept harping on Arthur, non-stop, trying to get him to tell them what's up with Buster, even I was feeling frustrated and just wanted to tell them to shut the eff up already. And... do they really have "potions" to put on your thumb to get you to stop sucking on it? Other than that, one thing that stood out about this episode that rang true to me is how Buster was trying to eavesdrop on others whispering, and everything but his own name was indistinguishable... have you ever noticed that? You try to listen to people whispering about you, and the only thing you can make out is your name, nothing else.
I ended up missing practically all of "Kidonia", mainly because I coincidentally had to help my mom shop (well, she's old, and can't do a lot for herself these days). One thing really **** me up though, when Brain was talking about having to "de-fray-g" his parents' computer. Seriously, Canadians have the funniest pronunciations of certain words.
-
And I got to hear speaking parts for Arthur's Dad Mr. Read (voiced by Bruce "Binky Barnes" Dinsmore) in "All Thumbs"!
Now I will have to wait until Spring 2014 for the rest of Arthur Season 17...

At least Season 18 will air the same year.
-
On CBBC, the second half is Season 17 has already mostly aired. I got to see 'Caught in the Crosswires' on the website. It was pretty good and the animation has improved a lot. However, only people in the UK can see it because of the proxy thing.
I also saw 'Framed' last night. Written by Kathy Waugh! And also, the animation on Buster's dream sequence with the other artists had amazing animation.
Oh, and Mr. Read spoke in 'Pets and Pests'.
-
Oh, and for November,if you like Ladonna, I have some episodes from the second half of Season 17 to recommend when they come out:
Speak Up, Francine!
Waiting For Snow
Go Fly a Kite
-
The rest of the episodes are on Youtube, but they're in Hebrew. If anyone is willing to watch that, they could go for it.

Thanks Jekyll! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for those episodes! :)

Looks like Francine's finally managed to hijack the series... :D
-
Okay, here are some other thoughts on episodes I wasn't able to catch up on until today.
Kidonia:
-Decent episode, good way to show why society needs at least some laws to function for very long.
-I was surprised that Brain would go for the idea of a lawless society without foreseeing its many potential problems when the constitution was written.
-Buster with smelly socks on his ears was fun. Of course, I found it ironic that Francine had the nerve to criticize him for smelly socks, as sock odor seems to be a problem that she suffers from herself. In fact, it's been brought up in more than one episode.
-Most of all, I really got a kick out of Ms. Read's gentle nod to the Boomerang Generation: "You can stay here long as you like...or at least until you're 30."
Adventures in Budylon:
-D.W. usually has hilariously biting lines, but her attempts at this just fell flat and seemed like humorless, matter-of-fact observations here.
-Ladonna's spontaneous, zombie-like obsession with "Extreme Kite Flyers" was pretty cute, though.
-I don't make much of it, but something seemed a little...awkward...about Arthur and Ladonna sleeping together overnight in a tent. Almost exclusively, sleepovers are either all-boys or all-girls at that age. :-\ With very young kids (Bud and D.W.) it's not that odd, it's just more strange for Arthur and Ladonna, given that they're just a few years away from puberty. It strikes me as funny the more I think about the title clearly being a play on Babylon - a Biblical metaphor for hedonism - and the episode ending with everyone "sleeping together." 8)
All Thumbs:
-I agree, Arthur's response was just way too harsh. Really, it wasn't that big a deal. It seems like Arthur and Buster have been having a lot of disputes in recent episodes. While things are usually mostly resolved, the disparity between Arthur's more sensible nature and Buster's weirdness/immaturity has only grown over time. One wonders if they'll manage to stay friends as they grow older and eventually into adulthood. I think it's doubtful. Good thing they'll be eight years old forever.
-Buster's ears doing a 180 degree rotation to listen to what's being said behind him...serious lol. :D
-Even funnier was poor George's tortured speech on lemurs. I could absolutely relate to this. As a kid, I hated getting up and doing speeches in front of class.
-MARIA SPOKE!!! :o :o :o Well, sort of. We heard her let out a "gasp" when she learns of Buster's thumb sucking in Arthur's thoughts. It's not much, but this is a big step for her. As much as I want her to become a central character, I sort of like the air of mystery she carries as a silent wallflower. It makes her rare moments in the spotlight all the more valuable.
-
MARIA SPOKE? :o (or gasped) WHAT THE HECK? why haven't I heard about this? aigh, I'm gonna stay up all night to watch arthur episodes some night when I don't have school the next day. I am almost to fall break! ;D
-
I know, right? They were just deliberately teasing us with that lunch line scene. :D
-
I forgot to point this out, but did anyone else happen to catch the little throwback in "All Thumbs"? During Buster's Imagine Spot, where he heads to the big city to look for a job, at one point, we see a Fallon and Sons moving van driving down the street.
-
Last week, after the pie incident during Ladonna Compson: Party Animal, 9 Story were very disappointed at Bud and they announced that they canceled the premiere of Adventures in Budylon and Ladonna Compson: Party Animal in Tokyo, Moscow, and Rome.

Last week, after the pie incident during Ladonna Compson: Party Animal, 9 Story were very disappointed at Bud and they announced that they canceled the premiere of Adventures in Budylon and Ladonna Compson: Party Animal in Tokyo, Moscow, and Rome.
That makes no sense whatsoever.
-
As for Maria, this was my reaction, "It's only a matter of time". That gasp from her was unexpected though.
-

Wow, looks like that pie really turned out a lot worse than expected... :D :D :D
On another note, I've been checking out some of the Hebrew Arthur episodes.
-The voice acting is hilarious. Arthur's voice is deep and raspy. He sounds sort of like young version of Tom Waits. Buster's voice is ...utterly incomprehensible.
-D.W.'s name was changed to Geli.
-The introduction no longer shows Arthur falling off of the logo after saying, "Hey, D.W.!" Instead, he says, "Hey, Geli!" and their TV shows the title sequence where Francine hits the center screen like a gong.
-Maria speaks again in the Hebrew version of "Buster Makes the Grade" when Buster throws the paper ball at her in the intro, btw. Of course, she remains silent in the English version.
-
CJ, why is the premiere of Adventures in Budylon and Ladonna Compson: Party Animal in Tokyo, Moscow, and Rome is canceled makes no sense? Didn't you hear the news?
-
Again it wasn't much, but I do appreciate what little scraps of personality I can get from Little Miss Soggy Socks. ;)
Yeah, the Hebrew dubbing is really off sometimes. Most noticeably, Ratburn says absolutely nothing when swimming past Muffy/Brain in the intro when he's supposed to say, "Hey!" :-X

When will I see Bud Compson without his hat?
-
Probably around the same time we'll see Double D from ED, EDD N EDDY without his hat.
But that does bring a question to mind... the Compsons are from Louisiana... well, it's HOT down in Louisiana... then again, it's hot down in the south, period... take it from me, I'm from Tennessee, and we're already in the 70s for highs by March, it gets into the 90 shortly before June, it'll reach anywhere between 105 to 115 in July and August, and it's still warm in the 70s for much of October... anyway, being from such a warm climate, how can Bud stand wearing a winter hunting hat like his all the time?
-

I wear a cap outside even when it's hot the entire time. I reside in Florida, so the weather is crazy around here. As for why Bud wears a hunting hat all the time is pretty much the same reason why Alex and Maria have yet to have had a significant role in the series. Reasons unknown, but I have a feeling we may find out why Bud wears that type of hat sometime in Season 18.
-
This does raise a good point. I lived right next door to Louisiana (Houston, TX) for five years. Even in Winter, wearing normal Winter or even Fall clothing will turn you into a walking sweatshop.
Maybe the Beverly Hillbunnies just bundled up in anticipation of the cold, Northern weather?
-
I need to see how Bud without his hat looks.
-
Laziness on the part of the character design department? That's the only explation I can think of regarding Bud's permanently attached headwear.
-
I just want to see him without his hat.

I used to know someone who wore his Coonskin cap every day, even when the weather was hot. I once had to ask him if he got hot under that hat. He said yes and show me that it was drenched in sweat inside.
I've since learned to not want to see under people's hats.

I hope Bud appears on waiting for snow.

I just talked to him last night, and he told me he'd appear on Waiting for Snow and take his hat off at the end of the episode, but only if you pledge $100 to PBS Studios by next Tuesday. ;)

Well, I'll admit I do wear a cap like Radar O'Reilly wears year-round, but at least with it being a knit cap, it actually allows for some ventilation... but yeah, coonskin caps, or sheepskin-lined hunting caps and such, those things certainly would bottle in the heat (and the sweat).
-
November, I don't know if Bud took his hat off at the end of waiting for snow.
-
I can take MY hat off, if that'll make you happy.

No, I was asking November.

Very well then; November, take your hat off.

No, I was telling him that we don't know if Bud took his hat off at the end of waiting for snow.

Well, it looks like my cover's finally been blown.
The truth of the matter is, I am Bud Compson.*
And now, I'm taking my hat off.
*there*
So it is written, and so it shall be.
*in theory.
-
Bud, you better not take off your hat at the end of waiting for snow. I will get shock if you do.
-
Here you go, guys, make sure that Bud does not take off his hat at the end of the Hebrew version of waiting for snow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzIO_ejssrI

And then, the Chiefy could fly. Fly, Chiefy, flyyyyyyyyy!

I put a video for waiting for snow. Watch it to make sure that Bud doesn't take his hat off.

The State of Israel clearly failed to donate $100 to PBS Studios by the Tuesday deadline.
This is what happens when instructions are not followed and demands are not met. :-[
Subsequently, out of spite and vengeance, Bud plans to take his hat off in the Palestinian version only.

So what were the Pope and Raquel Welch doing in a lifeboat anyway?

Having fun, I'd imagine...but only if they remembered to pack their library cards.

Hard for me to believe that, when you're the guy that asked on Facebook if Waiting for Snow takes place in the Winter. Just sayin. I just got contacted by someone close to Muppetfan and they told me to chill out. The person did so, because Muppetfan is going to coming back out of nowhere very soon. He's going to deal with you. I suggest you behave yourself and stop this nonsense.

Me either.

It's good to hear that Muppetfan may come back. It seems like he just dropped of the face of the internet a few months after he made the forum.
-
Again, I want Bud Compson without his hat.

...Reading these last couple pages, I have no idea what has become of this thread.
The thread is turning into this, because some people (yes Muppetfan I'm calling you out on this) had to leave the wiki without appointing anyone as admin. Now we have this rat looking, perverted tool named Luigi from Wikia, whose head is too far up his you know what to get anything clear through his mind. This is what I've been trying to prevent from happening ever since November of last year. Now it's happening. This is just great.

I told 5000 that you're acting like a complete sycophant to him. He agreed and is keeping the ban for two years. At least when I've done something wrong I admit it, instead of puckering up and kissing someone's backside every time. As if they're going to help you anyway.

I thought this would happen too. I'm actually quite surprised it hasn't happened before. He definitely should have appointed mods before leaving.

Besides that tool, who posted before me disrupting most of the thread, anyone else noticed something interesting from Season 17?
-
anyone else noticed something interesting from Season 17?
I saw a YouTube comment about the characters saying "yeah" more often this season than before. :P (or was that season 16?)
Also, I sent an email to BBC about retitling "When Carl Met George" as "George and the Missing Puzzle Piece". Maybe now we can know the reason why the name was changed. ???
In other news, Loki Benediktssen on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/iWillFriendU) took down all of his season 16/17 recordings. :'( He apparently got a copyright notice on one and deleted the rest to be safe.
Oh man. Well it was fun while it lasted. Being able to watch Season 17.
-
It was Travis Hicks.
-
This is terrible news. :'( Good thing I saved all of the Ladonna episodes when they aired. I'm planning on buying Seasons 16 and 17 as soon as they become available on DVD or Amazon.

That's going to be a while. They still haven't released any of the earlier Seasons in the US. The exception for that is other countries, which have Season 1-3 available on DVD.

That's certainly good news to hear!
Now I can safely cancel my plans to sleep on the train tracks tonight.

Same with the period when Juicy-Juice was a sponsor.
And I liked those juice products too. :P
-
Yes, I drink Juicy Juice quite frequently, mainly because I'm carbonation intolerant; can't drink anything with carbonation in it, it just comes right back up after I swallow. Fruit juices, water, and milk is about all I drink.
-
Do you know McCompson's?
DID SOMEBODY SAY...

Eat anything on this menu and your bowels will be in a world of hurt.
-
Get that quote wrong, and you're entering a world of pain.
It's not intended as a direct quote. It's a deliberate bastard combination of:
1. "You touch anything I don't tell you to touch, you get hurt,"
2. "Take one more step, and you're entering a world of pain," and
3. Obstinate bowel movements.
Either that, or I've just got too much blood in my caffeine system tonight.

I never liked carbonated drinks, myself. Soda, beer, sparkling water...for me, it's all like drinking battery acid (which I admittedly only drink occasionally at weddings and other social functions).

Oh shut your mouth. If I'm not mistaken, weren't you the same person that wanted to keep that dude on the wiki by shortening his ban, despite the fact he was clearly aggravating users inside and outside of the wiki. At least 5000 and myself did something about instead of us trying to play nice with trolls.

How about bud as a Burger King guy?
-
And betray LaDonnald's for the competition? Why, BudDonald would never do such a thing!
That is, unless they let him trade in his hat for a snazzy paper crown...
-
How about Bud King?
-
We've already got Buster. One Drugs Bunny is enough for the show.
-
How about Budway?
-
But, Subway doesn't even serve mac n'cheese! :-[
Especially not out of a teapot.
Though I have to admit, the Subway Guy does look suspiciously similar to Carl with his low-set glasses and huge forehead.
-
How about CFC? Compson Fried Chicken.
-
But Captain Rufus Tucker Compson still has three promotions to go before being a Colonel.
I just don't think he's qualified to command that sort of brigade at this point in his military career.
-
To get back onto the topic of the actual EPISODES, has anyone seen 'Brain Freeze' on YouTube? It's pretty good.
-
Yeah, I've saw that episode. I thought it was pretty good although I still don't know the name of Brain's ice cream shop. The shop usually has ICE CREAM on the front of it but that really isn't a very good name for a shop.
-
Ah, now that some new episodes are available...
-It was good to see Marina again, albeit briefly.
-Likewise, it was kinda neat to see Katherine and Chip together on a date in Yumbobo...but alas, it's just in Brain's thoughts.
-Muffy really does seem to be falling into a generic and uninteresting role. I think Wildstar pointed this out this in the Vomitrocious post, and I'm really starting to see it now. She's pulled the backfiring marketing assistance thing too many times now. I'm really hoping that she shows some character development and dynamic in Caught in the Crosswires.
-I was also hoping Molly would have a speaking role or at least do something more significant, but she seems to be entirely a background character so far this season. I suspect this may be her fate from this point forward, given that her character pretty much ran its course and found closure in The Last Tough Customer. If she's effectively finished, then at least it was a beautiful character arc. Still, this would have been a great opportunity for her to be a Tough Consumer and wreak havoc on Yumbobo.
Director's Cut is also available on Youtube, btw. It's next on my list.
-
I can't see brain freeze yet.
-
I too was surprised to see Chip and Catherine together in Brain Freeze, only to be disappointed a few seconds later to learn it was just Brain daydreaming. Though it makes me wonder if Brain was made aware of their potential relationship at some point, through either Francine or Muffy.
Muffy hasn't been without her moments in the 9storyverse. She showed a bit of complexity in "Muffy Takes the Wheel", how she didn't want to take credit for her dad's work on her project. And in "Just the Ticket" she called and told the other kids about Arthur abandoning the tickets, when she could have done the typical Muffy thing and taken them for herself without anyone knowing.
I hope Molly hasn't become a background character, especially after her big moment in TLTC.
-
That's true about Muffy now that you point it out. I think that deep down inside, I really just wanted to see her with a different hairstyle again. :D
-
i hope Mrs. Compson doesn't get mad at Bud for having a snowball in the freezer during waiting for snow.
-
I just caught the Hebrew version of "Caught in the Crosswires" on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e18Sky3-Sg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e18Sky3-Sg)).
From my very, very, very basic knowledge of the Hebrew language (and a little help from Google Translator) it was actually a good episode from what little I understood from the dialogue. It definitely does make up for Muffy's poor character development in the 9storyverse eps. I did think the parody of reality shows was a bit dated, though.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD, if you'd rather wait for the English version to air...
The highlight of the episode was Muffy asking Bailey if she is spoiled, and him answering "It's a possibility." Bailey then asks Muffy if he is spineless, and she tells him he's the bravest man she's ever known (apart from her dad, of course).
Bailey definitely has become a surrogate father to Muffy, further evidenced by the fact that her parents completely ignore her throughout the episode as they try to hog the cameras' attention with their Crosswire Motors advertisements.
Another scene I liked was J. Cube (the reality show producer) trying to amp up the drama in the show by convincing Muffy that the soup Bailey served her was scalding hot, and Muffy arguing that it isn't...
J. Cube: Bailey served you a bowl of boiling hot soup? What kind of monster does such a thing?
Muffy: Um, it isn't that hot.
J. Cube: But it could have been.
Muffy: But it's not.
J. Cube: Maybe a little?
Muffy: No, it isn't.
At least that's what I got out of translating it. I just found that scene to be funny for some reason.
Some other things...
- Bailey is revealed to be 37 years old.
- Mommie Dearest reference ("Wire hangers?! WIRE HANGERS?!")
- Not specific to the episode, but the Hebrew version of Buster sounds like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings films.
-
I need to wait for that episode to come out.
-
Thanks for the preview info -- this sounds like a great episode. :) I can't wait for this episode to come out in English, so I may have to resort to Google Translate as well. I'm semi-conversational in Arabic, so I'm also able to grasp small bits and pieces of the Hebrew episodes due to similarities between the two Semitic languages, though 3/4 of it is still gibberish.
Muffy has the potential to be one of my favorite characters. Normally nefarious characters really shine above the rest when they start to show glimmers of goodness. It's sort of like being able to appreciate the warmth of a fire so much more when coming in from a long walk in the cold.
It sounds as if it might touch on some of the other pitfalls that very wealthy children can experience...aside from being materially spoiled and narcissistic, that is. While studies show that overall well-being of children generally increases with family income, this only occurs up to a point. Strange things start to happen when you look at that top 1-5% income bracket. Lack of quality attention and love from overly-busy parents, for instance, is common in families with a household income over $150,000. Being crushed by unrealistically high expectations is another one that plays out later in life -- as well as a high rate of substance abuse and depression. It would be interesting to see these issues explored more thoroughly in future episodes, at least to the extent that they could be shown among 8 year-old kids.
Regarding the Hebrew voices - I know! Buster cracks me up. Arthur's voice is also pretty gruff. He sounds like he has emphysema from a lifetime of smoking. And the fact that D.W. has, for reasons unknown, become Geli is just icing on the cake.
-
me too.

I'm sorry to throw everyone off topic (well, not really, it'd be nice to get people to stop obsessing over Bud Compson's hat...), but I just wanted to clear somethings up for the viewers of our show, and let everyone know, that I actually did have one line in segment, "Buster Bombs", however, either because of time constraints, or because of clumsy editing, my line was removed. Basically, all I said was, "I'll have the hot dogs, please", since Buster did not want them before me in line.
But... it's okay... I really don't like to draw attention to myself anyway... even though it's surprising to me, and Alex as well, that we both seem to have something of a following.
-
Is that topic going to remove?

When I first saw this episode, I was SO excited when Maria had the whole screenshot to herself for a good 2-3 seconds... YET she still managed to say nothing at all. I still have hope that she will come out of her shell someday. :)

Given all that's happened, I'm not at all surprised that people up top are actively censoring Maria. They're afraid she'll try to alert the audience of the unspeakable horrors she's witnessed.
We know that Larry King's been involved as early as Season 7 when Elwood City turned 100.

*Temporarily breaking out of character again for a moment*
So I finally got to see all of "Kidonia" today, and it was mostly good (and I see Tolon Brown co-wrote it), even if it was rather cliched: kids forming their own country (or their own city, or setting off on their own) all mainly as a means to get away from chores and rules among other things, it's been done before. I did like how Brain actually made up his own Kidonia-exclusive money (IIRC, I think there's an actual city here in the U.S. that has its own currency since the American dollar is virtually worthless nowadays, but it's only redeemable in that city) and Buster tried to use it to actually buy things. I'm not at all surprised that one by one, everyone started to leave Kidonia when they realized their own Constitution basically inconvenienced them (that or they just simply didn't agree on everything). I kind of think the episode had a Downer Ending though: nothing was really resolved, and we don't see how Arthur, Buster, Francine, or Brain worked things out afterwards, we just basically see Arthur return home, dejectedly (and D.W. now Head of Security at the Read house).
I think it would have been interesting (albiet still cliched) if other kids became Kidonia citizens, aside from just Arthur, Buster, Francine, and Brain: I'm sure Muffy would weasel her way into taking control of some position of authority, and I know Binky would just simply become a citizen for the sake of joining in on whatever's going on.
-
^ At least one city that uses its own currency is Ithaca, NY. There are probably others as well.

Not the first time this has happened - Season 6's "More!" implies Arthur and the gang broke up on ends regarding finances - though are clearly back together by the next episode.
-
I also found Kidonia an interesting episode. Pretty good and I have a feeling more is to come this year.

-
What's OCD?
-
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, It is when you can not help having certain things in a certain way. For example; OCD like keeping colour objects of the same colour together. They will tend to do the opposite of what you want. If you want a Lot of Apples in one room a few in another room. But they will do the opposite and put few in the first room and Lots in the second room. It is quite complicated. And in your case you are obsessed on Bud without his hat.
