Your Local PBS Kids Schedules
« on: June 24, 2013, 03:52:34 pm »
What does the current schedule of kids' programming for your local PBS station(s) look like? I'm mainly curious about this subject as I have read that some PBS stations independently air old shows like Mister Rogers and Wishbone, though the oldest ended show I still get is Clifford. Does anyone know if WGBH still airs Postcards From Buster?

I get three stations: WNET-13, WLIW-21, and Kids Thirteen (13.2, a subchannel of WNET).

Well, let's see...

WETP/WKOP-2/15

WEEKDAYS:
6:00am: CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG (I honestly didn't know it still came on, but then again, nobody wants to live at six in the morning)
6:30am: WILD KRATTS
7:00am: [Local programming]
7:30am: MARTHA SPEAKS
8:00am: CURIOUS GEORGE
8:30am: THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT
9:00am: SUPER WHY!
9:30am: DINOSAUR TRAIN
10:00am: SESAME STREET
11:00am: DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD
11:30am: SID THE SCIENCE KID
12:00n: WORDWORLD
12:30n: BARNEY & FRIEDS
1:00pm: CAILLOU
1:30pm: [Local programming, repeat]
2:00pm: SUPER WHY! [repeat]
2:30pm: DINOSAUR TRAIN [repeat]
3:00pm: THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT [repeat]
3:30pm: CURIOUS GEORGE [repeat]
4:00pm: ARTHUR
4:30pm: WORDGIRL
5:00pm: WILD KRATTS [repeat]
5:30pm: [Local programming]

[No PBS Kids on Saturdays]

SUNDAYS:
6:00am: SESAME STREET
7:00am: CURIOUS GEORGE
7:30am: THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT
8:00am: SUPERWHY!
8:30am: DINOSAUR TRAIN

I personally miss when SESAME STREET used to come on in the afternoons as well... I haven't been able to actually sit down and watch the show in five years, I am always so out of the loop... not very impressive for a Muppet Freak like myself.
I stretch like a snake, and I shimmy and shake, and I bounce like a ball, and I say something cute when you give me a squeeze!

WFWA has four channels total, three of which air Arthur! I used to be able to receive WBGU over-the-air back in the days of analog television...  :P

WFWA was one of the stations that aired Wishbone (up until a couple years ago) and Mister Rogers (up until it was replaced by Daniel Tiger last year). I've read online that some changes are coming to PBS Kids this October. The new show, Peg+Cat, premieres, and Barney is planned to be replaced by a new season of Thomas And Friends. Also, the "PBS Kids Go!" branding is supposed to be phased out by then. Actually, I already noticed season 16 episodes of Arthur no longer than the "Go!" bumpers at the end of the show.

PBS39HD (39-1)
Looks like many PBS stations opt to simply go with the national PBS feed's schedule nowadays, which for some reason has TONS of repeats during the day...

WEEKDAYS:
6:00am Clifford
[6:30am Classical Stretch]
7:00am Arthur
7:30am Martha Speaks
8:00am Curious George
8:30am Cat in the Hat
9:00am Super Why
9:30am Dinosaur Train
10:00am Sesame Street
11:00am Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
[11:30am-1pm Crafting/cooking/gardening/etc.]
1:00pm Caillou
1:30pm Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
2:00pm Super Why
2:30pm Dinosaur Train
3:00pm Cat in the Hat
3:30pm Curious George
4:00pm Arthur
4:30pm WordGirl
5:00pm Wild Kratts
5:30pm Electric Company

SATURDAYS:
6:00am Bob the Builder
6:30am Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
7:00am Curious George

SUNDAYS:
6:00am Sesame Street
7:00am Angelina Ballerina
7:30am Zoo to You
8:00am Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
8:30am Thomas and Friends
9:00am Mark Kistler's Imagination Station
9:30am Biz Kid$

Kids39 (39-2)
This 8-hour schedule is repeated from 4pm-midnight, and midnight to 8am the next day. This channel is entirely programmed locally, meaning we often get to see some older (rarer?) seasons of a few shows, including Arthur!  ;D

Cyberchase is also having a new season this fall (It wasn't cancelled after all, just a hiatus, it seems), so any stations that stopped airing it will probably get it again.

I'm surprised how very similar some of our local PBS Kids schedules are, it's almost as if different affiliates really have no individuality anymore. Odd.

Yeah I know a LOT of local stations are conforming to a more standard/unified schedule, for whatever reason. Seems like several years ago, the kids line-ups varied a great deal from station to station. I'm just speculating, but I'm sure it's MUCH easier for a station programmer to pick up a show directly from PBS' live feed, rather than to program it on their own.

Good point there D.W., it'd be a lot easier for viewers too... I remember years and years and years ago, my mom's best friend took on vacation for a week, and I found myself in a state of confusion because none of the shows on their PBS affiliate were on at the same time as ours was... and ironically, this was around the same time our PBS finally started to add ARTHUR on a regular basis to its schedule (this was the summer of 2000) - I saw a glimpse of "Binky Barnes Wigman", up till then, I only saw the occasional episode from the first two seasons whenever our PBS aired them.

I also get KLCS, which has a slightly different schedule. It's kind of odd now that I read some of the other posts in this thread, as my primary PBS Station (KVCR) seems to change and create the schedule as they please. Sometimes Arthur is on four time a day, sometimes it's not there. They also randomly show a bunch of episodes in their proper released order. Specifically I remember them showing (I believe) season two in its entirety over the course of a few weeks. On their normal schedule, they do a nice mix of new episodes and Season 5-9 episodes.
