ECC LIVES!!!

<< < (2/4) > >>

A Lotta Moms:
I'll stick around as usual until something more disastrous shows up.  Then when it does, I'll have fun playing with it like a dead raccoon.  I tend to prefer lightly moderated or completely un-moderated communities anyway, even when trolls do happen.  It makes things more colorful, vibrant and unpredictable.  Sort of like playing hot potato with a live hand grenade.

I've known a few people who've tried getting old abandoned forums deleted, and apart from a very grave TOS violation such as child p0rnography or a major piracy trade, it generally doesn't happen due to respect for the original Administrator's account.  Otherwise, much of the time it takes nothing too short of a valid legal threat/order from a court, law enforcement agency or attorney.

Create-a-Forum, ForuMotion, ProBoards, etc. could technically shut down a forum for even very minor TOS violations like silly spam or even minor swearing, but doing so would cause bad publicity, cost them traffic and advertising, and pose a risk of gaining a reputation as an unstable forum provider.

Rummy:
Looks like this place ain't going anywhere anytime soon.
How unfortunate for those who wish for it to vanish. But fortunate for those who value fond memories of this place.

ralfsmouse:
OK, wow. Where do I start? I had to take a break from this forum for a while to do some work, and when I come back, I have a notice that it's getting deleted. First of all, I was shocked that the createaforum administrator would schedule a shutdown of a forum without some sort of voting among the members. I read the message about the shutdown on the 12th, and I was kicking myself for not coming back sooner. I wonder why it didn't get shut down, did the administrator change their mind as they visited the forum, seeing the negative reaction?

Bionic Bunny:
That's a good explaination.

Snowth Woogle:
It could still possibly be deleted at random when we least expect it. I tried my hand at a Create-a-forum forum back in the summer (I've maintained forums before, but this was the first time I worked with Create-a-forum), but it got deleted for really no reason very recently, though I think a lot of it had to do with lack of traffic.

Since it's been brought to their attention, I think there's still a possibility CAF may carry out with shutting down ECC, but only when they actually get around to it... for now, I'm hoping it'll still remain open for a while longer.
