I heard that Lakewood was based off of a school somewhere in Ontario. Me and everyone on the wiki were never able to verify it though until now I guess.
Dear MC CJ- I don't want to confirm or mislead you on this point until it's a fact. I'll try to find the answer to it and post what I find.

I know Marc Brown went to a Lakewood School when he grew up in Erie, PA (according to http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/marc-brown-interview-transcript). The closest thing Erie has to a "Lakewood School" today is Lakewood Preschool.

Oh it's okay. We've been debating about where Lakewood was based off of for a while now. I heard it was somewhere in Ontario that the school was based off of. I forgot what site it was, but that was one of my guesses.

The name of the school may very well be Marc Brown's school. The interior of the school also existed in the 6 books that Marc drew before the series began. Once the series started the design of the locations and characters were the work of the artists on the tv series. The exterior of the school came out of the design department at Cinar as far as I remember. Marc later authored a lot of new books that are condensed from  the scripts  the  writers wrote for  the series and he also used the designs from the Cinar designers and storyboard aritists for the  book panels.

I wonder if the school Marc Brown based Lakewood off of still exists today?

In the tenth season of the serie, the design team were asked to include the number ten in various places. For instance , in the episode "Happy Anniversary" the characters said the word ten at least 18 times.

There was a season after season 10 where there had to be a character riding a bicycle added into the show in some place by the storyboard artists. I'm guessing it was around season 12 .

You are right he forgot to write the word bathroom but at least he drew it in the right place according to the floorplan. You can see the original floorplan design that started off the whole series in one of my earlier posts in this section.

Did the hand drawn floor plan of the Read House ever get turned into a proper design sheet or has it just stayed like that throughout the entire production of the show?

I don't recall that it was ever updated. Though I think there is one that is a photo copy of this plus the basement on the same page. The house has been added to and not followed properly in a lot in the scripts because generally the writers would not follow something like a floorplan when they write. For instance you can see on the plan that DW could not have a closet in her room and she could not see out a window of her room to the Molina's house. But there are lots of shows with a closet in her room. The kitchen also has a mudroom ...sometimes. The strangest thing though is that the stair case goes out to the back door not the front.

Even though the house may not be consistent, I always like how the animators are able to pull off the house looking normal even though it's been changed dramatically.

When has this happened?

I remember Arthur was talking with D.W. in the mudroom in "D.W. Tricks the Tooth Fairy".

Not sure what episode this picture is from, but it looks like season 4-8 to me.

OK, I remember the mudroom now. That picture does look like seasons 4-8, but it looks like the colors are messed up. Is it supposed to be that dark and vibrant?
