Lakewood Elementary's Library?
« on: April 13, 2013, 06:01:42 am »
This isn't really worth much of a discussion, but it's a question I just formed in my mind that I wanted to address.

Whenever the characters need to go check out a book or something, they always go to the Elwood City Library (with its massive size, two stories, librarians' lounge and all that glory :) ). But most schools (private, public, elementary, middle, high, big, small) have a library of some sort. So I've been wondering...why is it that the kids never visit Lakewood Elementary's SCHOOL library? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we've never seen that library, so we don't even know if such a place exists. But like I said, practically every school like that has some sort of library. It's just an irregularity that I happened to notice.

Maybe Lakewood is an exception to the rule? I'm not sure, but yeah, you're right, most if not all schools have some little library in the facilities. When I was in elementary school, we had a small and basic little library (books, no computers); in middle school, we had a slightly larger library that also doubled as a computer lab; and the four weeks I was in public high school, I would usually goof off in the library after I finished lunch and before we had to go back to class.

However, I've NEVER seen a library IRL quite like Elwood City's, like you said, that place is massive and two stories high, but then again, I wonder if it's their ONLY library in the entire town? My town has a number of small branch libraries, but Elwood does seem more like a small town, so I'm guessing maybe it's their only one.

I stretch like a snake, and I shimmy and shake, and I bounce like a ball, and I say something cute when you give me a squeeze!

I find that kind of strange the school's library has never been shown yet the Elwood City Library is mostly seen. I had a library in all my years of school (we did have computers at the elementary school at the time along with books). So I guess Lakewood was never built with one is my guess. There is a library a few miles down the road where I live.

Growing up, my schools' libraries weren't all that good compared to the city library. Quite a limited selection, and you never were allowed to take books home unless it was for a class project (your teacher had to allow it). The library at Lakewood Elementary might be the same way, so most kids go to the Elwood City Public Library instead.

My go-to library now is the Cleveland Public Library. It's not too far from the Cleveland Institute of Art, where Marc Brown studied and graduated in 1969. Wonder if he ever visited that library?
