1. Elwood City is about to hand out its annual, coveted Teacher of the Year award, something that Ratburn has desperately been wanting for years, but always loses out to another teacher for various different reasons (well-behaved class, least amount of student tardies, teaching methods, class engagement, etc.), so Arthur and gang decide they want to do whatever they can to help Ratburn win this year, because he's becoming really obsessive about wanting to win it, and it's driving the kids crazy.
I feel like this could be a really good episode, even if it is a little cliché. I could imagine Mr. Ratburn knocking on Arthur's door asking him if he is doing his homework, just like the imagination sequences in "The Rat Who Came To Dinner."

2. Someone actually comes into Ratburn's life. Definitely a one-shot characters. Many fans have this belief that Ratburn's in the closet, so maybe if he were to cross paths with a charming, intelligent, yet tough and ambitious woman who seems like his equal (like a new replacement teacher or someone), which may cause him to act strangely, thus making the kids worried about (I think WISHBONE did an episode that's kind of like what I'm talking about).
I've never understood why people have thought that he is in the closet. Never the less, I also think that this could be turned into a fine episode. One shot characters have a time and a place, and I think one could fit here, unlike in "So Long, Spanky." But what do you mean by "Act Strangely?" is she trying to control him? Is he trying to impress her?

Oh, he's definitely trying to impress her.

But yeah, by acting strangely, I mean he's so preoccupied and wrapped up in her, that it's affecting those around him.

Like for instance, there was an episode of RECESS where Miss Finster falls in love with Hank the Janitor, and as a result, she becomes uncharacteristically nice and cheerful with the kids... or, in the aforementioned WISHBONE episode, the teacher (I forget his name, Mr. Pruitt I think) had a thing for Wanda Gilmore who lived next door to Joe, meanwhile, he becomes rather irritable and snappy with the kids at school. So basically, whatever happens, Ratburn would unknowingly have to be really uncharacteristic with the kids, like perhaps NOT giving them homework for a change, or he's so busy thinking about his new love interest, that he says any answer that's given to him is correct when it obviously isn't.

Just to clarify.

That was a good episode of Wishbone, if I recall correctly! ;D Good ideas, Snowth Woogle. I love Mr. Ratburn episodes.

I really love this episode idea. This could become an extremely good episode. I wonder what this female Ratburn would look like?

I have some ideas:

It's also possible that the female Ratburn won't have such long, silky hair. She might go for a more no-nonsense look:
