Episodes You Haven't Seen in Ages
« on: September 23, 2012, 05:23:51 pm »
With PBS being really selective with the episodes they play, there are a lot of older/classic episodes that probably haven't been seen on television in years... what are some episodes that you haven't seen in the longest time that you can still remember in the back of your mind?

I just got to thinking about "Sue Ellen's Lost Diary", for some reason, I was remembering Arthur's intro of trying to read people's minds... then of course, there's the fun intro for "Arthur's Knee" (which unfortunately gets a lot of dirty comments on YouTube).

Very nice job starting conversation here.

But for me personally, a group of two that they rarely ever seem to show anymore is "Night Fright" and "Arthur's TV Free Week." They show those so infrequently that I'm beginning to forget them...

Which one was the one where they were scared to go into the woods because they thought there was a monster in it? Haven't seen that one in a while...Can't even remember what episode it is.

Buster: "Hey fresh dudes, mind if we chill your crib?"
Slink: "WHAT?!?"
Buster: "Me and my homefry here wanna be in your possum, I mean, posse!"
Toby: "What's he trying to say?"

I believe that would be "What Scared Sue Ellen?"... I'm glad I taped that one, I've actually been watching it frequently as of late.

Yeah...that would be "What Scared Sue Ellen?" And I do agree, that episode has not been on for the longest time.

"Arthur, World's Greatest Gleaper" is another one that I haven't seen for quite some time.

Yeah, I think it's been... maybe a year since I last saw that one... maybe? Lol, I like how "dated" that episode is: Muffy talking about Arthur gleeping her cellULAR phone, and when it rings, it's really large and looks almost like a walky talky. XD

Has anyone noticed that anymore, certain older episodes are played only for special occasions? Like "D.W. Goes to Washington" only being played on special American holidays like Memorial Day, or "April 9th" being played on 9-11?

D.W. Goes to Washington...now there's one that I haven't seen in like forever.

But yeah, I have noticed that. I think that they are beginning to get more picky about the shows they put on and excluding some for more special occasions.

It seems like they don't really show earlier episodes in general any more. Dated animation maybe?  :-\

We seem to have this pattern that goes like we have six to eight weeks or so of episodes from Seasons 5 and 6, and 9 to present, then maybe only a week of episodes from Seasons 1 through 4 and 7 and 8. Two weeks if we're lucky, but not very often.

That may be the case. The animation on those episodes is pretty dated. Once again, I think that they're becoming much more paranoid, so to speak, about what episodes they show.

I wonder if the different character voices could also have some effect on what they show? Sometimes companies get so wrapped up in trying not to confuse kids...

Sometimes I think production companies underestimate the intelligence of kids. I mean, seriously. Kids getting confused because of different voices? *facepalm*

Yeah, I know...I think that in the end they actually end up confusing kids more by trying not to confuse them.

I think the problem with the voices is that they keep getting voice actors too young anymore... HOW many years now has Arthur sounded more like D.W. and D.W. sounded more like a prepubesent chipmunk? They somehow manage to get a decent voice actor for Brain every other cast change.

Yeah, I agree that there has been some crazy cast changes. For some reason, however, I never really mind the Arthur changes. I hear the differences, but they just all sound the same to me.

The latest Brain though, (I think that's the one), isn't the best I don't think. I can't remember who that is, Luke Reid, maybe?

It's just a bit jarring when it seems like every season Arthur's voice seems to be getting higher...at least, I find it extremely strange :P

Buster: "Hey fresh dudes, mind if we chill your crib?"
Slink: "WHAT?!?"
Buster: "Me and my homefry here wanna be in your possum, I mean, posse!"
Toby: "What's he trying to say?"
