The Named Characters Speculation
« on: November 03, 2012, 12:44:10 am »
Over the course of the last 16 years we have seen many characters in Arthur. We've had some characters named and many that aren't. The named characters we have include Alex, Maria, Otis, Billy, and Steve.

The speculation is that all of these characters along with more were to be used at some point in the past in the series, but apparently never took place. There is also evidence to support this believe it or not. The evidence has been in everyone's face for the last sixteen years. The intro to the show.

This speculation can also be fueled by the fact there were two episodes that had name lists. The episodes these name lists were shown were Grandma Thora Appreciation Day and Arthur's Number Nightmare. In Arthur's Number Nightmare a full list was showing most of the names of a good majority of the unnamed characters.

What else does everyone here think about this?

Since things are getting active around here I might as well spike things up a bit.

I think it's interesting that the list has a "Brain" and a "Brian."

Yeah I actually almost thought Brain was actually Brian when in fact his real name is Alan.

Brian is one of the school kids way back from episode 2 when he was a fourth grader not to be confused with Brain.
Again I doubt his name was ever used in the show but as a model or storyboards here is the kid known as Brian on the attachement.

I don't remember the situation with that list of names but I believe there is a reason that it would not be Brain on that list.

Nope Brian's name isn't on the list. His name however did appear on a list in the episode Arthur's Number Nightmare. That was pretty interesting to see other names like Patrick, Jennifer, John, and Helen to name a few in that episode. In the episode Grandma Thora Appreciation Day names like Willy, Carol, and Richard (I assume it's Richard that I could make out) appeared on a list as well.

I saw the name Brian at the bottom of the list on the image you had posted.  Willy, Carol, and Richard are incidental kids but I forget which class they were in. Maybe I will come across them someday. Here is a line up size comparison model of kids from grade 4 at least they were back in season one. It might have changed along the way though. It shows some of the guys on your  list of names and some others I've been commenting on like Helen and Brian.

You know it's interesting many of these names were seen during that Season 13 episode Arthur's Number Nightmare. I know Frankie is now known as Otis as of the episode Dancing Fools.

Is there another lineup sheet for Arthur's class? I've always wondered who was the tallest. ??? Binky is usually said to be the "biggest", but Brain is about the same height in recent episodes.

Binky and Brain are about the same height.

Brain and Binky are indeed the same height. They both after all should be in the fourth grade along with Prunella. I've noticed some third graders appear to be taller then others. Like these for example. Is it possible some of these characters were suppose to be in the fourth grade too?

Well, not all kids are the same height at the same age, a lot of it has to depends with genetics and family history.

Now with Binky and Brain, yes, it makes a little sense, considering both were held back (Binky in third grade, Brain in kindergarten... but who holds a kid back in kindergarten), but other than that, again, it just depends on many different factors.

I inherited a lot from my mother's side of the family (which is really odd, considering her side is made up mostly of Scotch/Irish and Cherokee ancestory, and those are some really big and burly people), and a lot of the people on her side of the family are rather short (she's only 4'9''), so when I was a kid growing up, I was usually one of the shorter kids within my grade and age; conversely, there were also some kids in the same grade and age that were rather tall for their age... some of them were like two heads taller than me, so again, a lot of it has to do with genetics and family history, which can be unpredictable at times.

Another example within the world of animation is Alvin and The Chipmunks: Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are triplets, Alvin is five minutes older than Simon, and Simon is five minutes older than Theodore, yet even though Simon is technically the middle child, he's the tallest (and Alvin used to be the shortest, even though he's the oldest); same with The Chipettes: age order is Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor, but Jeanette is the tallest even though she isn't the oldest.

Now for something REALLY intriguing: my niece is just about the tallest member of the family (almost as tall as me)... and she's only 13... she'll probably grow up to be Cameron Diaz, lol.

I do know about the genetics thing, but I did recall in earlier episodes some of these third graders had Ratburn. They probably changed this.

I'm surprised no one ever raised the peculiar issue of why characters only have same species parents.

I'm pretty confident that rabbit girl on the first row is Sharion.
