Brain and Cookie Monster
« on: December 04, 2012, 12:57:13 pm »
I noticed ECC has been kind of dead as of late, so I thought I'd try to liven things up again with an observation I've had:

There's a couple of mild similarities between Brain and Cookie Monster: for one thing, both of them started out with "the" as part of their names, particularly in the earlier episodes of their respective series, which was later dropped ("THE Brain" and "THE Cookie Monster"). Also, there were a few little unusual traits of their characters that were later dropped as well; for example, although Brain was always the smartest and most intelligent kid in school, he was also something of a big comic book collector, as well as a slob - a couple of traits that seem really unusual for him in hindsight. Similarly, although Cookie Monster always had an insatiable appetite for cookies, he also had a tendancy to eat ANYTHING - even trying to eat other characters.

Wow! I have never compared Brain to Cookie Monster. I've frequently compared Brain to Beaver Cleaver, June Cleaver, Maxwell Smart, Larabee, Michelle Tanner, Joey Gladstone, and (of course) D.W. There have been other TV characters I have compared him to, but mostly only for the early seasons.

I did think that Brain being a comic book collector and a slob was unusual.

So, do you know when Cookie Monster started eating healthy foods? I'm sure it was some time after they stopped doing "Elmo's World."

He still eats cookies, lets go ahead and get that clear, he still eats cookies, he has NOT become "Veggie Monster", he's still Cookie Monster; the whole health food craze seems to have entered Sesame Street around 2005 or so, so it's been some time now, meanwhile, I believe they stopped doing "Elmo's World" only very recently; I know for this new season, they replaced it with "Elmo the Musical" to capitalize on the popularit of Glee.

Of course he's still eating cookies! And I thought that "Elmo's World" was replaced with "Monster Clubhouse."

Actually, the health-food theme seems much less tiresome than what happened when Slimey the Worm went to the moon. For that season, with the exception of letters and numbers, all they ever talked about was outer space!

By the way, you left out the "y" in "popularity."
